"New Beginnings" - Stories About Saved NYC Shelter Animals
Hi!
I just wanted to share my story of Louisa (fka Beauty A1029042)
Beauty was the second dog that I walked when I started volunteering at the Brooklyn ACC in March and it was love at first sight. Sadly, she was already showing symptoms of kennel cough, and in due time she was placed on the at-risk list twice, to be reserved by adopters who never showed up. When I realize she was going to be placed on there again, likely her last chance, there was no question in my mind that I had to do something. It was a big risk for me as I wasn’t sure how it was going to work but when she was brought to my apartment the next night, I knew it was going to be ok. Over the next few weeks I fostered her while she recovered from kennel cough. Every day I fell in love with her more and more, and a few days before she was supposed to go to adoption events, I made the decision to adopt her. Sadly I am not allowed to have a dog in my apartment, but my wonderful parents knowing how much she means to me, offered to care for her for the time being. Now Louisa is living with my parents, my 2 younger sisters and her new brother Toby, a rescue black lab. She has a huge yard to run around in and can just be a happy dog! I miss her terribly but soon enough we will be reunited. 🙂 Taking her in and giving her a chance at life is one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I really believe it was meant to be. She’s my baby girl and I love her so much.
