LIZIE
"New Beginnings" - Stories About Saved NYC Shelter AnimalsLizie (A0943711) was my 47th foster dog. I picked her up from transport on 12 September 2012. She was found tied to a fire hydrant on East 170th street as a stray. She has clearly been a mama several times. Lizie displayed aggression at the ACC and was not assessed. But the write up of one volunteer, who was able to take her out at the shelter for a walk, gave a different perspective. In the end, I had to adopt Lizie because of her behavior issues, but she is my girl. She saved me from a violent dog attack a little over a month after she came to me. I was on the ground holding a 140 pound dog off with my hand in his mouth and Lizie (at the time just 50 pounds) knocked him off me and subdued him. She is protective, sensitive, super-duper smart and totally my girl. So many (amazing) stories to tell about Lizie-bear. She now lives on 24 private acres, tucked in the hills of Vermont. We go for daily rides, swimming in the summer, and trips to dog friendly places. I work from home, so Lizie is hardly ever alone.
