"New Beginnings" - Stories About Saved NYC Shelter Animals
I adopted Ivy (fka LADY – A0963873) (Safe album – 78!!!! https://www.facebook.com/Urgentdeathrowdogs/photos/a.608877309125152.1073741847.152876678058553/605536382792578/?type=3&theater). She was saved almost 3 years ago, 5/14/13, from “death row”. She was listed as age 4 – but it turned out she was actually 8 yrs old.
It was rough in the beginning. She didn’t like to be alone, we found out after she ate her way through a door. She would jump at every sound in out house. She had horrible skin and eyes, and you could see in her eyes that it hurt when we touched her. She would always hide in the safety of her crate.
She came around though. It took time, patience, and love. Just this year we were able to take down the crate, as she feels safe all the time now.
She is an absolute delight. One of the best dogs I have in my time as a dog owner. She is so polite, has wonderful manners, hates getting dirty, and hates baths. She has a lot of allergies, both food and environmental. We addressed her eyes in which she gets eye gel twice a day and eye drops throughout the day. She is on a very strict diet (along with Apoquel), which is helping her skin. She is a very, VERY lovable and loyal dog. She loves hanging out with the kids, those are her favorite humans. She loves car rides and goes everywhere with us.
She sleeps in bed with us. She still doesn’t know how to play with toys. However, she does love to go to the boys lacrosse, track and cross country events. She watches silently from the sidelines (she doesn’t like to walk on grass).
We have loved watching her blossom into the dog she should have always been. She has her own facebook page too – https://www.facebook.com/adognamedivy/ . I’m so VERY thankful she was saved, I couldn’t imagine life without her.
