SAFE AND ADOPTED. Thirteen year old diabetic senior, Charlie was a headbutting, declawed purring machine who was recently pulled from the at-risk list by Zanni’s. Here is a happy update from his new family, “Charlie is getting better every day. He is such a resilient & sweet little guy. We love him so, so much!
After Zani’s pulled him from ACC, Charlie spent a week hospitalized at the vet where he was treated for early symptoms of pneumonia, and also mild pancreatitis.
Additionally, the vet worked on getting Charlie’s diabetes under control which apparently had never been treated.
The entire vet team loved him to pieces & took very good care of him. They were sad the day we could finally bring him home but we were SO happy!
We currently have him set up in his own kitty “condo” as we continue to regulate his diabetes with regular blood glucose monitoring, insulin, and prescription diabetic food. And tons of love, of course! For now he receives 3 units of Lantus in the morning & 2 units at night. We might have to increase the nightly dose but we’ll see what the vet says next week when she takes a look at his bg log book. He enjoys his prescription food, and LOVES his freeze-dried chicken treats! And he never minds the bc measuring & insulin shots. He is such a gentle and loving little guy. And he’s just got the cutest squishy face!
Once he is stabilized and has gotten used to our home and the other kitties (we have a chair in front of the table where his condo sits so the other kitties can visit with him), he’ll only be in his condo for evening feeding through morning feeding. This way we can ensure that he eats mostly his prescription food.
Lastly, his fur has started to grow back in all the bold patches all over his body and on his lower back. Poor guy suffered from severe flea dermatitis and had overgroomed his entire backend.
We saw Charlie listed on the TBD list the day after our beloved hospice kitty had to be pts at home. We felt that he was meant to become a part of our family and we are so grateful to Zani’s for pulling him for us.
Charlie’s remaining years will be filled with love & kisses & committed medical care. He will forever be a beloved member of our family. And we tell him that every day!”
